Imaging WG Junior Clinical Grant

The Association for European Paediatric and Congenital Cardiology (AEPC) Imaging Working Group (IWG) is offering a Clinical Grant for Junior Members (JM).

AIMS

To assist a JM in training to access a clinical experience not available to them or difficult to achieve in their home institution.
To support collaboration amongst congenital cardiology centres across Europe and improve and stimulate research among junior doctors.

ELIGIBILITY

The applicant must be an AEPC JM and member of IWG, in good standing.
The project should be focused in CHD imaging and be hosted by a European centre other than applicant’s home institution.
Applicants are accepted from within Europe only, and must intend to return to their home institution at the end of the stay.
The applicant should obtain written agreement for the proposal from the proposed host institution prior to submitting application.

GRANT

A successful applicant will receive 1,500€. 
This can be used to contribute towards subsistence, accommodation and travel costs.
The grant does not cover salary or any other costs.
A summary report from the clinical stay must be  provided in writing to the IWG within 3 months of completion.
A completed AEPC IWG JM Clinical grant application (Appendix 1) should be sent to the IWG Secretary by 31st December 2024.
The IWG Council will evaluate all applications and award the grant to one successful proposal. Candidates will be notified of the outcome by 31st January 2025.
Centres in Europe offering free or financial support for accommodation to the JM applicant are preferred, although projects without such support are not excluded.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

  1. Candidate’s background - Previous training and future perspective in the imagine technique that would like to improve or be trained. Does the candidate have the sufficient level to benefit from the stay at the chosen institution?
  2. Clinical programme - Detailed training programme designed to maximise the trainee's stay.
  3. Practicality - Is the area of study not available in the applicant’s home institution? Will the applicant return to their home institution with expertise that can be applied locally? Is the clinical programme achievable in the time frame allotted? Can the skills learned in the host institution be implemented in the home institution?

(Each criterion scored from 1-5, maximum score 5 for each criterion, maximum total score 15)

GRANT APPLICATION – WHAT TO SUBMIT

  • Application form (Download appendix 1 at the bottom of this page).
  • Details of proposed educational activity.
  • Curriculum vitae of applicant.
  • Letter of support from applicant’s supervisor or head of department in home institution. The letter needs to describe the skills of the candidate and guarantee continued employment at his/her home institution after finishing the travel fellowship.
  • Letter of support and acceptance from applicant’s proposed supervisor in host institution.
