AEPC exam in Paediatric and Congenital Cardiology

REGISTRATION FOR THE AEPC EXAM IN PAEDIATRIC AND CONGENITAL CARDIOLOGY 2025 WILL OPEN END OF JANUARY 2025.

WHO MAY TAKE THE EXAM

The examination is open to both AEPC members and non-members, and both trainees as well as trained paediatric cardiologists:

  • Trainees in Paediatric Cardiology after having passed at least 18 months of training.
  • Trained Paediatric Cardiologists

As part of the registration, you will need to upload a signed statement on training/education, signed by your supervisor / head of department. The standard letter (statement of current education) can be downloaded here >

The maximum number of applicants is 100. Preference will be given to AEPC junior members.

CONTENT OF THE EXAMINATION

Questions are based on, and will cover, the knowledge base outlined in the Specialist Paediatric Cardiology Curriculum according to the “AEPC Recommendations for Training in Paediatric and Congenital Cardiology(Cardiol in the Young 2020;30(11):1572-1587).

The exam content is determined by a pre-established table of 14 sections. The specifications are developed by the AEPC council, Educational Committee and working group chairs and will be reviewed annually and updated as needed for currency.

STRUCTURE OF THE EXAM

  • The examination is held once a year. Initial exams took place during AEPC Annual Meetings. From 2024, the AEPC exam is held online. The AEPC Exam 2025 is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 25 June 2025, duration 3 hours.
  • The examination is in English.
  • The duration of the written examination is three hours.
  • The exam is compiled by the Educational Committee and consists of 125 multiple choice questions (MCQs), including objectives structured clinical examination (OSCE) with five options, based on single best answer (no negative marking). The questions can contain images or clinical cases
  • The exam consists of two parts:
    • General knowledge (50 questions)
    • Clinical cases or imaging (75 questions)

*The resit fee is only for those who did not pass the first edition of the exam, and is not to be paid in case of first registration.

Payment of the exam can be done by credit card (directly with application) or alternatively via bank transfer (bank details can be found below). Please note that your registration is only final when payment has been received.

Should you not pass the examination, you will have the opportunity to take the exam at the next occasion at a reduced rate.

Upon passing the exam, a confirmation of passing will be provided to you. Candidates will be informed on the outcome of their exam by the end of July 2025.

Cancellation policy - Should you wish to cancel your participation in the exam, you will need to do so before 2 June 2025 in order to receive a refund of the registration fee paid.
