AEPC TEACHING COURSES FOR TRAINEES

Japan Junior Exchange Program 2026-2027: Congratulations to the winners!

Last updates Oct 27, 2026

The AEPC-JSPCCS Young Investigator Exchange Program (YIEP) between AEPC and the Japanese Society of Pediatric Cardiology & Cardiac Surgery (JSPCCS) continues to offer a unique opportunity for our junior members to gain international experience, exchange knowledge and build professional connections.

The programme enables selected AEPC Junior members to spend at least four weeks at a paediatric cardiology institute in Japan, supporting their clinical and scientific development while strengthening collaboration between AEPC and JSPCCS. During the same programme period, three Japanese fellows will have the opportunity to visit European centres.

We would like to thank everyone who applied for the 2026–2027 programme. We greatly appreciate the enthusiasm and interest shown in this year's exchange.

Congratulations to our 2026–2027 awardees!

We are delighted to announce the three selected AEPC Junior members:

  1. Sophie Duignan (Dublin, Ireland) → Kanagawa Children’s Medical Center, Yokohama
  2. Giulia Pasqualin (San Donato, Milan, Italy) → Sakakibara Heart Institute, Tokyo
  3. Musa Öztürk (Ankara, Türkiye) → Osaka Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Osaka

The awardees will now work with their host institutions to arrange the most suitable dates for their stays in Japan.

AEPC will reimburse their economy-class return ticket to Japan and provide each awardee with EUR 1,000 pocket money to help with accommodation and daily expenses during their stay.

Congratulations to Sophie, Giulia and Musa! We wish them an inspiring and rewarding experience in Japan and look forward to hearing about their experiences afterwards.

We would also like to thank JSPCCS and all participating host institutions for their continued collaboration and commitment to making this valuable exchange possible.

And the exchange goes both ways!

As part of the reciprocal programme, three Japanese fellows will also have the opportunity to visit European institutes during the 2026–2027 programme period:

  • Shigehito Baba → German Heart Center Munich, Munich, Germany, Stanimir Georgiev
  • Yuka Hayashida → Children’s Heart Centre (Detske kardiocentrum), Prague, Czech Republic, Jan Janoušek
  • Natsumi Kikuchi → Ospedale Bambini Gesu, Rome, Italy, Gianfranco Butera

We look forward to welcoming them to Europe and continuing this valuable exchange between AEPC and JSPCCS.
